Overview
This presentation will highlight the importance of increasing clinical knowledge and understanding, among healthcare providers, for patients with potential risk factors and /or concerns about PFAS exposure. The presentation will discuss individual risk factors and will teach the audience current federal recommendations for screening, as well as other protocols for assessing PFAS exposure and prevention and follow up approaches where research and research findings may be involved and/or unclear, respectively. The presentation will promote knowledge and competence for understanding and recognizing likely PFAS environmental exposures and preventing further exposure.

AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (1.00 hours), Non-Physician Attendance (1.00 hours)

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Examine primary sources of PFAS exposure in impacted communities and in the general population
  2. Explore potential health effects of PFAS exposure
  3. List at least 3 (current) resources for PFAS clinical guidance (screening, diagnosis, management, and prevention), including federal recommendations
  4. Differentiate between current national clinical recommendations and those in specific communities being studied
  5. Describe the value and limitations to PFAS blood testing, how to conduct testing, and how to interpret results
  6. Identify where to access resources for concerned community members (regarding both past exposure, possible exposure and exposure prevention)
  7. Identify where to find clinical expertise for when they have questions not answered in the standard guidelines
