Overview

This one-day course is designed for athletic trainers, nurses, physicians, PTs, PTAs, OTs, and other healthcare professionals who provide care to student athletes. Athletic Directors/Administrators, Coaches, and students are also welcome to attend.

Topics to be covered include Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and hypermobility, mental health of athletes with EDS, abuse & trauma in sports, cheerleading injuries, ergogenic aids, and kinesiophobia in athletes with heart disease. Additionally, adolescent hip disease and rehabilitation will be discussed. Our featured topic will cover strategic implementation of professional growth strategies and building teams who are collaborative, patient-centered, creative, resilient, and growth minded.

AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (6.50 hours), ABOS MOC Part II (5.50 hours), Athletic Trainer- Category A (6.50 hours), General Attendance (SMC2025) (6.50 hours), Physical & Occupational Therapy (SMC2025) (6.50 hours), Social Work (1.50 hours)

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Discuss adolescent hip osteotomies.
  2. Explain evidence-based interventions in post-operative and non-operative hip protocols.
  3. Discuss therapeutic interventions for athletes with hypermobility.
  4. Identify psychiatric symptoms commonly associated with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.
  5. Provide healthcare professionals with a novel framework to support self-awareness and the strategic implementation of progressive professional growth strategies.
  6. Summarize the evaluation and management of the cardiac athlete.
  7. Provide evidence-based guidelines for the use of ergogenic aids in sports.
  8. Describe the different types of non-accidental violence perpetrated on athletes.
  9. Examine the American Academy of Pediatrics "Safety in Cheerleading" policy.

Onsite check-in will be from 7:30-7:50am at Children's Mercy Park located at 1 Sporting Way, Kansas City, KS, 66109. The entrance is located on the west side of the building at the UMB Premium Entrance. There will be a parking attendant available to assist with parking. Once in the building, you will head to the Executive Lounge.

A folder will be provided containing the conference agenda and additional information on exhibitors. Please be advised that we are "going green", so there will not be any hard copies of the presentations. All presentation materials can be accessed and printed from from the CloudCME website or app by searching for "2025 Annual Children's Mercy Kansas City Sports Medicine Conference".

Accreditation

Children’s Mercy Kansas City (BOC AP# P8325) is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education for Athletic Trainers (ATs). This program is eligible for a maximum of 6.25 hours/Category A CEUs. ATs should claim only those hours actually spent in the educational program.

This course meets the criteria for up to 6.25 occupational and physical therapy contact hours for submission to Missouri and Kansas for continuing education.

Children's Mercy Hospital is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Children's Mercy Hospital  designates this Live Activity for a maximum of 6.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the learner to earn credit toward the CME requirement of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery’s Maintenance of Certification program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit learner completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABOS credit.
