Beyond the Referral: Engaging Families Affected by Substance Use with Compassion - Lessons Learned from the TIES Program

Please join Emma Sexton, Manager of Team for Infants Exposed to Substance use (TIES) Program to learn more about the TIES program and how healthcare professionals can improve communication techniques to support referrals for program enrollment.

1. Describe at least three communication techniques that reduce stigma and promote patient-centered engagement during referral conversation with pregnant and post-partum individuals affected by substance abuse.

1. Integrate understanding of the TIES program to support appropriate education and referrals for services.
2. Reduce referral barriers by incorporating communication techniques that remove stigma and bias.
3. Incorporate role play scenarios to shift mindset and improve communication that will promote family engagement and shared agreement with program referral.
