2026 ECMO Certification Course

The Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) recommends institutional certification of new ECMO providers and specialists via an ECMO training course offered within the organization. The course is multidisciplinary in nature and covers a variety of topics including program overview, key team members, ECMO circuitry, and a foundational repertoire of physiology and troubleshooting content for the ECMO clinician. Content is reviewed in a variety of formats including didactic lecture, case reviews, hands-on activities, and moderate-fidelity simulation.

AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (19.75 hours), ABS CC (39.50 hours), ANCC Contact Hour(s) (27.25 hours), Non-Physician Attendance (19.75 hours), Respiratory Therapy (32.70 hours)

1. Identify the difference between VA and VV ECMO.
2. Describe neonatal and pediatric disease processes supported with ECMO.
3. Use appropriate ECMO troubleshooting and management during case simulations.
